Our Haliburton Cottage shed is similar to the Highlands Gable model but has its own unique character design difference. If you look closely you can see that the roof design on this outdoor structure is not centred from left to right, but rather is offset from front to back with one side being longer than the other. This is referred to as a Saltbox style building and provides a 10” overhang across the entire front end of the shed which gives a ‘front porch’ look. Saltbox style is a Colonial architectural style that originated in New England over 300 years ago.
This outdoor cottage, as its name suggests, offers a special cozy cottage look to your backyard landscape or outdoor space, especially when enhanced with the addition of our window shutters and flower box accessories and added windows in the doors. This model is very popular in all neighbourhoods within the Southern Ontario regions such as the Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Guelph, London, and Niagara areas.
As with all our all-wood sheds, the construction consists of 2×4 spruce wall studs with 24” centres and 2×6 pressure treated floor joists, 16” on centre, with 5/8” tongue and groove OSB flooring. The walls are built with LP SmartSide which is an engineered wood product that comes already primed in a neutral colour.
LP SmartSide siding products are treated using a proprietary process. This process consists of four components of protection adding strength and helps the product to withstand impacts, freeze/thaw cycle, high humidity, fungal decay, and termites. The majority of the trim is unprimed and will require painting.
Roof trusses are manufactured at our facility and if required, we can have them Engineer approved and stamped in order to be compliant with local building codes.
All our sheds are installed the same day with a block and gravel foundation, unless there is an existing concrete pad. Architectural shingles are available in either black or brown and come with a 25-year manufacturer’s warranty.
Many options to upgrade are available such as upgrading the floorboards from 5/8” OSB to 5/8” pressure treated plywood. This upgrade ensures longevity and greater protection from wear and tear due to excessive use. Some other additional options and accessories available are plexiglass windows built into the solid doors, a workbench, tool racks, solar lights – the list goes on.
