Women are increasingly retreating to their backyard sheds for pastime activities ranging from gardening to book reading to making crafts. These repurposed backyard sheds, or she-sheds, can be transformed into a haven; a pleasant backyard getaway for women looking for some peace and quiet.
Here are some things to keep in mind about creating your own she-shed:
You can create your own she-shed by simply clearing out that cluttered shed in your backyard. Simply identify any tools, supplies, and other items that you don’t need any more and sell or donate them to charity. Organise the remaining items in storage and leave enough space for your pastime activities. If the shed was previously your child’s playhouse, consider giving it a fresh coat of paint to give it new life and make the space more inviting.
If you don’t have an old shed to repurpose but have enough space in your backyard, consider buying an easy-to-build kit at your local store. These kits come in a variety of designs, so you can choose one that fits your theme or interests. They are cheaper, easier, and faster to set up compared to a home renovation.
Decorate your she-shed with unique items from antique shops and flea markets. The idea is to make your space as relaxed and cosy as possible without breaking the bank. Shop around for items that pique your interest, such as plant vases, wall-mounted shelves, or repurposed old windows, ladders, and other items. If you are willing to create some of the decorations yourself, the customisation process can be very cost effective.
Decorate the landscape as well. She-sheds are hardscapes that add beauty to your backyard. A beautiful shed becomes a focal point in your yard that can help keep your outdoor space organised. Add to the visual appeal by surrounding it with colourful window boxes, grassy plants, and vines to establish a tranquil vibe.
Remember to create an inviting entryway, especially if you plan to entertain your friends. Consider installing backyard lighting or decorative lighting to set the mood and make the area clearly visible at night.
Keep in mind that you can use your she-shed for anything. It will be most enjoyable if it’s clean, pretty, well organised, and a reflection of yourself. You can use the space for exercise, meditation, a home office, for relaxing, as an art studio, or anything else that interests you.
