Tips to Maximize Your Workbench

Posted By On 17-11-2016

Your workbench is the garage equivalent to your office desk, that “sacred” space where you can get things done. Are you getting the most out of it? You can make some small additions to your workbench that can help it to work harder for you. You can do these things yourself or hire someone—either way, you will be able to store more tools and get much more done much faster.

Hooks

This might sound simple, but they’re very useful for hanging tools and other items that you don’t want to place on the ground or elsewhere. You can place the hooks at multiple levels, in various locations and they come in a variety of sizes. The hooks can also be placed on the wall above your workbench. Depending on what you are doing, it might be easier to place your workbench against the wall for better storage.

Drawers

These might require a bit of craftsmanship and some extra tools, but they will increase the storage capacity of your workbench. You’ll have a central place to store your tools while you work, putting one thing away and taking out another as needed. In lieu of drawers, you can add more layers beneath the top of your workbench. Your needs will determine the number of layers you need.

A Larger Surface

You can also increase the surface area of the bench according to your needs. Get a sturdy platform that can handle the weight of whatever it is you plan on putting on it. If you are using wood (most likely you will be), make sure it is sanded and painted.

Pegboard

Similar to putting hooks on your wall, you can install a pegboard to go with your bench. The pegboard is a versatile accessory and can hold a variety of things. The pegboard can also be fitted on the side of your bench.

Magnetic Strips

Magnetic strips can work just as well. They are used in kitchens and bathrooms and can likewise be used on your workbench. You can choose one according to size and what kind of tools you want to attach.

With a little innovation, it’s very easy to make the most of your workbench. You will increase your productivity when everything is in one place and you don’t have to go looking for tools. At In the Back Yard, we have the tools for any job you need to do. So don’t hesitate to give us a call.
