Wooden Shed season is here!
The season for installing wooden sheds is finally here in southern Ontario. It’s time to shed off those winter blues and explore all that the great outdoors have to offer! The snow is melting. The sun is shining. The birds are all returning and everything is coming back to life. And what better way to celebrate the season than by sprucing up your backyard with a new wooden shed?
Wooden sheds are a great place to add extra storage space for all of
your gardening tools and outdoor equipment. It’s a place to pack away your winter gear after removing and dusting off your backyard furniture. Plus, with all the birds returning in the spring it can also serve as a cozy nesting haven for our feathered friends. Birds are everywhere in the spring and they seem to have a special love for wooden sheds and other outdoor structures. Wooden sheds can be like prime real estate for the bird world. It’s not uncommon to see birds hard at work building a nest in the rafters or overhangs.

Now, for those of us who already have sheds in our backyard, this can be both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it’s kind of sweet to watch the birds flit about, chirping and collecting twigs for their new home. On the other hand, let’s just say that cleaning up after our feathered friends can be less than pleasant.
But fear not – if you do stumble upon a bird’s nest, you can still enjoy their company from a safe distance. Just be sure to give them plenty of space and keep your outdoor activities to a minimum while they’re present. And who needs a perfectly clean shed anyway? It’s a backyard, not a sterile lab. And if you’re lucky enough to have a bird’s nest in your shed or outdoor structure, it’s like having your own little wildlife sanctuary right in your backyard.
In fact, watching birds build their nests and care for their young can be an incredibly entertaining and educational experience. Not to mention, these feathered visitors can help keep pesky insects and pests at bay in your backyard – so it’s a win-win situation!
